When you buy a domain name from a registrar, the registrar keeps
records of the contact information for your domain to be submitted to
the central registry of registered domain names. Should you choose to
use a different registrar to maintain the contact information for your
registered domain name, you are required to transfer the domain name to
the new provider’s care. After you register a domain name with Yahoo!’s
business services, you need to follow their transfer procedures if you
wish to use a new registrar.
Instructions
Difficulty:
Step 1
Log into your Business Control Panel and ensure you registered or
transferred the domain with Yahoo! at least 60 days ago. You cannot
transfer domains less than 60 days after they were first registered or
transferred.
Step 2
Click “Edit Domain Locking” in your Domain Control Panel. Click
“Unlock Domain” to prepare for the transfer. Return to your Domain
Control Panel.
Step 3
Click “View/Edit Your Domain Registration” and select the “Domain
Registration Information” page. Review the information and click “Edit”
if you need to update any contact information.
Step 4
Click “Make Information Public” to disable Yahoo!’s Private Domain
Registration service. This ensures you receive the correct transfer
information from your new domain registrar during the transfer process.
Step 5
Return to your Domain Control Panel and click “View Your
Authorization Code.” Copy or print the authorization code. This code
proves you are the owner of the domain and have the legal right to
transfer your domain name from Yahoo!
Step 6
Contact your new registrar to begin the domain name transfer
process. Provide your authorization code and follow the instructions
provided by your new registrar. Each provider uses a different process,
but most require you to respond or click a link in an email sent to your
domain name’s listed administrative contact email.
Step 7
Check your email inbox for the confirmation email from Yahoo! The
email is sent to confirm the transfer after the process is complete,
which can take up to nine days, according to Yahoo! Cancel your Yahoo!
plan after you receive the confirmation email.
