How to Get Listed in the Yahoo Directory for Free

How to Get Listed in the Yahoo Directory for Free

One trick to getting listed to with the Yahoo Directory for free is to start your site as a non-commercial resource.
That means no ads, no products for sale, no discernible way to make money found anywhere on the site - just free information.
If the information is quality, you can often apply and get listed with Yahoo Directory's free standard listing:
http://add.yahoo.com/fast/add?86307
Doesn't always work, but it has on many occasions for me.
Note: This is for the homeschool category. To see if free listings are available for your own category, just navigate to the category you want to be listed in and click the Suggest a Site link in the upper right corner.
If the category is accepting free non-commercial listings, you'll see an option for the free standard listing.
If you're submitting to a section of Yahoo that doesn't have an option for free listings, there's a site available that provides a nifty workaround.
In general, I find starting sites as free informational resources makes link building much easier. Then you can fold in the commercial elements later. Obviously, this idea is best applied to new sites, since it can be a pain dismantling an established site just for a directory listing.
